Reclaiming the Sea

There was a flea market in Amwaj yesterday so off we went to have a look. Amwaj used to be sea only and then the dredgers came in and work began to make a wonderland of islands with very upmarket accomodation. It's up and running now basically but still a lot of construction going on. (It's a bit like Knysna and Harties for that matter, for those in SA). The properties generally have water frontage with their boats moored (the smaller ones) on the piers in front of their property. The bigger boats (which are huge) are down at the local mariner. The sea water is the most beautiful colour, quite dense with salt so you can float around the lagoons for hours.

Well the dredgers are back and busy again building another man made island across the bay (There really isn't a need for more exotic islands as Amwaj is still very underpopulated) but nevertheless money flows and they continue to reclaim the sea. So if any of you are looking for a nice place on an exotic island surrounded by palm trees and blue seas and tax free salaries, here's your place. Must warn you though that you could get bored after a short while. There's just this air of sameness, the sea never gets wild, the skies are always blue, the wind flows up a sand storm occasionally but otherwise perfect stillness, which is nice only for a while.
