Belem Cathedral

Catedral de Se was completed in 1771 after 25 years of construction and stands close to the fort of Belem which was built when the city was founded in 1616 (396 years ago this Thursday).

It's not an easy building to photograph cleanly, at least with my lens, but this will have to do.

We had a nice lunch of moqueca (a fish stew with dende oil and coconut milk)overlooking the Amazon and had a walk round with the big cameras for a change, there being quite a few police on duty in this area.

Carnival opened here officially today (the main events are not until 17-22nd February) but there were still many people intent on dancing in the streets!
