Dolly's Day

NO - NOT A PHONE

I am a member of the Nielsen Fact Finder Panel. It involves scanning all the barcodes on my grocery shopping. Every item I buy must be scanned. If something doesn't have a barcode I have a booklet listing various items such as fruit, veg, meat, bakery products etc and I scan the code from the booklet. This is the scanner I use. All the info is stored in the scanner and uploaded (downloaded ? ) by the company once a week.

I joined in August 2009 - that's a lot of scanning. I get points for each completed week of scanning and the points can be used to get various items from an online catalogue. I recently used my points to get a blender as my old one was " borrowed " by Neil, taken to his student flat and never seen again.

It is time consuming and sometimes its a bit of a chore - especially when I have to scan my big weekly shop - but manufacturers and retailers make decisions as a result of the shopping habits of panel members so I feel it is worthwhile.
