Day 16 - Franz-Josef
What a day, there's a low pressure system out in the Tasman sea that's bringing wave after wave of heavy rain to the upslopes of the Souther Alps. I can truly believe that this part of NZ gets over 4m of rain a year.
We took shelter on our way south in the Empire Hotel, Ross. It's a lovely old hotel with a roaring open fire (we needed to dry out) located on the edge of this old goldmining town. Thought the image deserved the retro look.
For those UK weather watchers out there; I've found Dan Corbett, he's presenting the weather to the Kiwis. I've just seen him on TV apologising for forecasting a normal summer and getting it rather wrong. BBQ summer comes to mind........
