Grey's Bridge
This stone bridge is just east of Dorchester on the London Road.
The plaque warns that people wilfully injuring the bridge will be guilty of felony and transported for life.
Another plaque saying 'M.B of the B.D. 1835' presumably means it was built by the Master Builder of the Borough of Dorchester.
In Thomas Hardy's novel Far from the Madding Crowd the dying Fanny Robin collapsed against the guard stone of this bridge and was rescued by a large dog that acted as her crutch and got her as far as the town's poor-house where she died.
