Little Waitrose: Poundbury # 7

'Little' Waitrose in Poundbury opened a few weeks ago and is a handy place to go for those essential extras.

It's in Queen Mother Square (a reminder that Poundbury is Prince Charles's project) which is a cross betwen a road and a car park. Note the absence of any kind of signs - presumably to encourage motorists to slow down and check in all directions.

Back to the blip - check out the skull motif in the classical carved frieze above the door - in fact it carries all round the building. I noticed a similar motif at Stourhead last month on one of the classical temples in the garden. Wonder if that's where the idea came from?
