The Stones of Scotland
So I have gathered unto myself
All the loose ends of Scotland,
And by naming them and accepting them,
Loving them and identifying myself with them,
Attempt to express the whole.
~ Hugh MacDiarmid
A sculpture (by George Wyllie in association with Kenny Munro, Lesley-May Miller and Stuart Rogers) to celebrate the creative spirit in Scotland at the start of a new millennium, each of the 32 regions of Scotland were visited, involving local communities in finding a stone to represent their area. The chosen site is in Regent Road Park, Edinburgh overlooking the new Scottish Parliament. The first stone was laid in December 2000 and the official launch ceremony was on 30th November 2002. The extract from Hugh MacDiarmid's Scotland is carved onto a flagstone inside the circle of regional stones.
A wee wander round the city was in order today to clear the office cobwebs from my first week back and to get the diet back on track. This was one of three I had shortlisted for today's blip. The other contenders were Carry Out and Yellow Brick Road.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
