A lonesome warrior...

This is terricott warrior bought from a souvenir shop in Xian, China. I was fortunate enough to see the warriors in their thousands...

The sculptures depict the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210-209 BC and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.

The figures, dating from 3rd century BC, were discovered in 1974 by some local farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi province.

I heard when I was in there in 2010 that they had discovered other treasures but were unsure on how to unearth them as they had been preserved and very likely to decay quickly when exposed to the air...
