Speedbumps

In an effort to stop the boy (and girl) racers making a nuisance of themselves with their pimped up Honda Civics and such like, the local council erected speedbumps along this amenity stretch of road. Unfortunately the budding daredevils took this as a challenge and went at it twice as hard as before in some cases literally burning the bumps away with their deliberate wheel spinning standing starts. In the end the council closed the road off to vehicular traffic altogether.
With that the Celtic Tiger departed and with him went the aspiring world champion idiots. The road remains closed to cars but has remained as a lovely place to walk or cycle. Even the cyclists have to take things easy in order to avoid coming off their machines and ruining their lycra.
