Another Languedoc year...

Stanley

We've been pruning again today in the sunshine, but with a biting wind. Trisha had the warmest job - feeding Stanley Spencer.

SS is actually a pram with an open oil drum in which we burn the vine offcuts. It's named after the british painter who took his easel out on a pram whenever he was painting in his home town of Cookham.

Burning the vine shoots clears up the offcuts easily, keeps us warm and then returns the ash to the vines. We burn as much as we can but it's a slow process and we have tons of them so sometimes Stanley is relegated in favour of a huge bonfire. The only other drawback is that we come home smelling like kippers.
