The Chimney Mill
Another day, another appointment with the dental consultant. At least it gave me the opportunity to blip the windmill in which he's based and to find out a bit about it.
I used to drive past this all the time and wonder what was inside... It was built in 1782 by civil engineer John Smeaton and was the first 5-sailed smock mill in Britain (according to the info on the wall I was reading whilst waiting for my appointment). After that it was the clubhouse for Newcastle Golf Club, an architects, a corvette dealership and in the 1990s the Clothes Show was occasionally broadcast from here. In 2006 it became a specialist dental practice.
I love knowing the history of buildings and imagining who and what was there before...
