A Tree Grows in Sullivan's Gulch
This painting is an emblem of the story of the tree across the street that was cut down recently when the owners of the new house moved in. Through a neighborhood email list much virtual ink was spilled over the fate of this tree, which was big and brutally hacked at through the years, but yet gave the street the feeling that spirits were in the air. For those who love Ray Bradbury, it was right out of "Something Wicked this Way Comes;" or maybe only in my head, because young boys were always afoot on this street. Before they grew up. Anyway, my friend bought this to hang in the window, the day after the big tree went down, as a sort of tombstone.
