We took a big step today - but it was worth it!
Mr DV has Parkinson's Disease. He was diagnosed two years ago and it was one of the many reasons that made us decide to move areas. We have both been fairly reticent about joining a PDS group, as no-one wants to be labelled in any way. Today, though we took the plunge.
As a result we met some really friendly new people and found a new pub which serves excellent food!
There was a speaker who has led a Riverside Project and has converted an old, little used space into a beautiful walkway, suitable for everyone. The whole village community has been involved, there are wonderful fact cards made by the local schoolchildren, brilliantly displayed. the natural plants are re-appearing since the area has been thinned and new trees have been planted to replace the dead and dying trees that had to be felled. All this because a man took early retirement because of ill health and wanted to do something useful with his time.
This is one of the 20 bird boxes that have been made by the local scouts - they made bat boxes too, but this tree just took my eye. It's no wonder that this project, which was funded by the Lottery fund has won an award. If we all did just a little bit to improve our local area wouldn't the world be a better place?
So, we found other people who are dealing with similar difficulties, new friends, a good eating place and learned some interesting things about our new area. Not a bad return for taking one step!
