that feeling of feeling
At a point not far from the geographical centre of the city within metres of habitation and industry there's a little rock in the river which is exactly as worn and probably just as licheny as it would have been had people not buggered about with the world to the extent they have. Perhaps the river would have flowed a little more quickly without the weir a few metres upstream; perhaps the occasional incidence of excessive spate caused by coating the watershed with impermeable tarmac and removing most of the trees makes up for it. In any case a nice little place within five minutes' walk of work and twenty-five minutes from home to which I expect I shall return. Might leave it until next weekend as it probably seemed a lot quieter on a Sunday morning with the gentle plipping of the rain on the trees all around and I don't want it spoiled by the traffic noise of Monday lunchtime.
Ignored the dress code last night and just turned up in normal, comfortable clothes. After all, it was only in Rodti's flat rather than anywhere fancy. Drank one strange-tasting thing featuring vodka and vermouth, one foul-tasting thing made of gin and vermouth and another slightly tastier thing which surprisingly contained rum and cranberry juice. There were a couple of cocktail guide books around which mostly seemed to consist of ways to mix single droplets of weird stuff with neat spirit and were mostly illustrated with pictures from films noir. I expect it added alcoholism an aura of class and intrigue in days gone by.
Nice walk this morning already covered. I thought I mights also record the really nice ivy at the north entrance to the Rodney Street tunnel as I expect it will be utterly and needlessly destroyed during the process of re-opening. More walking, more damp logs, more walking, a leisurely pause with a nice coffee in a cup which matched the piping on my bag then a surprisingly not-scared blackbird just sitting three feet away in a hedge between food-shop and house. Still reckon I need a tele lens though.
