Ca' D'Oro

When I was checking Google Earth last night to establish the location of a lawyer's offices in Gordon Street, Glasgow, I realised it was in the adjacent block to the Ca' D'Oro Building, one of my favourite pieces of architecture in Glasgow. Its all the arches, circles and reflections of other buildings in the large areas of glass that really appeal to me.

It was a case of killing two birds with the one stone. I had to be in Gordon Street so I may as well get my blip nearby. I had hoped the early sunshine would continue, but the clouds moved in by the time we arrived so I had to put up with a grey sky in the background. The Ca D'Oro was designed by John Honeyman and opened in 1872 as a furniture warehouse. He based his design on the "Golden House" in Venice and the name Ca' D'Oro comes from an Italian restaurant that opened in the building in 1927. Well I think that's enough Glasgow culture for one day!

Afternoon was spent replacing a couple of fences in Renfrew that were blown down by "Bawbag II" at the start of the year. The forecast was for an occasional wintry shower, but the snow came on not long after we started the work and didn't go off until we were nearly finished. Sod's law! Mrs B was a star helping out and clearing away all the mess. It wasn't very pleasant work, so I promised I would take her out for dinner if we got the job finished!

Job done, blip posted - time for a beer and something to eat!
