'Creativity is...
... allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep,' quoted my eldest daughter to me just now as I was mourning the terrible awfulness of the focus on the white camellia flower in this photo.
Weirdly, a lovely online writer friend used the very same quote yesterday.
I went looking to see who it was they were quoting.
It's Scott Adams.
He also wrote this:
'Creativity is not like playing the slot machines, where failure to win means you go home broke. With creativity, if you don't win, you're usually no worse off than if you hadn't played.' I like that. It's worth remembering.
I've just spent a few minutes laughing at some of his other quotes.
I love this one: 'The source of all unhappiness is other people. As soon as you learn to think of other people as noisy furniture, the sooner you will be happy.'

So the photograph is not what I thought I had taken.
So I chopped off the bit I didn't like because I still liked the bit on the right.
I do have some very sweet ordinary daffodils pics that behaved themselves. But I'm in the mood for a bit of bad behaviour.
I've been reminded again this evening how we all see things differently. Sometimes shockingly differently. Sometimes I can't do anything about that and it hurts because people can rewrite history based purely on their own version of things and not on how we have thought things were.
People can read you wrong. Misinterpret you and invent the bits they couldn't create a complete enough picture of by joining the dots you gave them.
I've often been told I've done or said or implied things that I hadn't.
Part of the task of being a writer is to accept that you can't reach everyone and where differences of opinion are enormous maybe that's just as well...
Maybe...
*sigh*
