Evening gatherings
Back at trying to capture the starling murmuration. It's really difficult, there are many challenges...trying to catch the best grouping, movement, intensity, and light. I've taken so many photos of it where it's just a blob, and I've figured out it really needs to be caught in the moment where they all twist, turn, and undulate just right, with the darkest flash to the camera from the largest part of the group. Unfortunately even if I stand out there like a conductor they take no cue from me. I am at their whim, and if they want to make their best moves on the other side of the overpass where any photo would be crap, that's what they'll do (and so they did). This photo shows the best I could get of what I wanted, a mixture of starlings and crows, and it shows how they get into a thin line which at one point twisted and looked a little like either DNA or Twizzler's licorice.
TGIF, I'm ready for the weekend. Heading to a wedding in Oregon and planning to hit up some wildlife refuges on the way down and back, hoping for some good subjects!
