Visited Trentham Gardens to see how the Piet Oudolf gardens look in winter. Summer had been a gorgeous assortment of naturalistic planting, attracting hundreds of bees and butterflies, but Oudolf chooses plants for their winter silhouettes too, so I was looking forward to seeing seed heads and black, dried, upright stems. Sadly we were a little too late as it had been recently cut back to the ground. However, it gave the rare opportunity to see the skeleton of the space. And the Italian Gardens were still tall with dried grasses and flowers., so I got a photo afterall.
Inspired, we were lured into the adjacent gigantic garden centre and came away with hellebores for the winter and echinacea for the summer.
