Ring of Tyres

Feeble

Hmmm, not exactly what you'd call a bumper crop!

All bar one of the tattie plants have recovered from the windburn the other week and there's no sign of blight.

However one of the ones in the tyres stack had a partially snapped stem and rot was setting in at the base so I thought I'd dig it up and see what was happening.

The answer was.... not a lot. This was the total crop.

Now, it is too early as these are a main crop. We probably also used the wrong type of potato (bought the seed before deciding to try the bag/tyre experiment). Plus we almost killed them all off by earthing up to much at the one time. But even so... I expected more.

Still, I will keep hopeful that the others will be more productive. I shall try it again next year and not repeat the same mistakes.

And on the up side, the loam resulting from the blend of compost, rotted down turf stacks, nicely frayed manure (the hens scratch it up nicely for me) and grass clippings that were used to layer the stacks is wonderful, it will fill up our next raised bed perfectly.
