High Pressure
This is the first time I've travelled somewhere out of season. But somehow it seems okay for Estonia. It's meant to be cold in the eye of the traveller.
The cold air has left most of the streets and squares empty. The doors to the cafes are so heavy and cold proof they all look shut. The air is so cold and fresh that drawing in a deep breath can hurt. And the blue skies feel tall. Which accounts for the temperature.
Everything is really quiet and cold. It's as if Estonians have built the unbelievably quaint City just for tourists to hide some terrible secret. It's almost too picturesque, too silent.
This picture was taken from a viewpoint from the old town. The steam (?) rose slowly and silently from the dominating chimneys. It made the sky feel endless.
All our time hitherto has been spent drinking coffee, hot chocolate, tea and beer or eating pancakes, meat and, for me anyway, gherkins.
