Andalusian tile

This time last year, whilst in Seville for the weekend I stumbled across a small store in the Santa Cruz district that was full of amazing ceramics.

I picked up this 17th century tile and it's been displayed at home since.
Sadly many of these wonderful tiles were lost during redevelopment in Southern Spain. (You can see more about aladdin's cave on my blog).

I'm fascinated by the Andalusian history of ceramics. Many artisans left for North Africa in the 15th Century to be part of the booming civilisation there. I enjoyed a fantastic trip to Fez a few years back tracing the influence of Andalusian artistic tradition.
