Disaster or delight?

This arrived outside our house this morning - there has been activity a couple of times this week - an orange triangle appeared on the footpath two days ago, then yesterday a small hole was dug, and today this van arrived.

This van could hold the answer to whether we get to keep our house or whether it has to be demolished.

It has a machine called a penetrometer in it that goes down through the layers of soil etc for a considerable distance, until it reaches a hard level it can't go through.

From analyzing that it is decided what sort of foundations a house would need to be stable in an earthquake. We know our house doesn't have appropriate foundations, but the insurance company had planned to lift it, sort the foundations, and lower it again, however that depends on how expensive the process is, and that depends on how deep they have to go to get to solid ground to put the foundations on.

The men in the van were extremely uncommunicative, because of course we aren't allowed to know anything, it's all secret, and they have been warned to say nothing to residents.

So on we go - into the unknown with no control over our lives. Not easy. so we wait for the future not knowing if it will mean disaster or delight!
