Casing

Steel pipe, used in the borehole of a drilled well to strengthen and add integrity to the hole sides. Stops the borehole sides collapsing and allows deeper drilling. Normally around 40 feet long, the amount varies but can be over a hundred.

The ends are shiny because they have to be able to join and seal with each successive joint that is ran in the hole, 100%. Deck crew will spend days at times cleaning these threads. After running, the casing will be cemented in place.
