Help, save me!
This is our man overboard, MOB, training exercise dummy, I call him Spat (Spat... the dummy, get it? oh never mind).
Spat will be going into action today when we throw him over the side after we launch our FRC (Fast Rescue Craft) for some training. He plays an important role as if anyone actually does fall overboard then we need to be able to react quickly and rescue them. So training is crucial.
The life expectancy of a training dummy is, regrettably, short. As they eventually fall to bits or get lost because we fail to recover them (not a comforting thought).
Spat doesn't mind though and he hopes one day to retire from "water" work (should he survive long enough) and graduate to injured person/ casualty for use during fire drills and stretcher party practice. He says he has water now in places where there really shouldn't be any.
I wish him well in this lofty goal.
