Mugs, mugs and more mugs....

The first mugs of 2012!

I'm usually well into working most days in the studio by now, but this year, i needed a break....and i've had a wonderful time, but i find i'm a bit off kilter if i'm not making pots on a regular basis. So i was very happy to be in the studio all day, listening to music and making mugs. It's a funny old habit i have (and i know i'm not the only potter with this habit) but after an extended time away from the studio, usually after a busy season of production and shows, there is a ritual i perform! i clean the studio (well as clean as i can get it without going nuts!!), and the first things i make are mugs! Don't know why, but there is a familiar comfort in getting back into the rhythm of throwing that making 2 dozen mugs brings to me! Tomorrow i can trim them and with my new extruder, make handles in half the time it has been taking me to roll the coils out! Terry is in the process of making the right sized die for my mug handles!

just to keep the record straight....these mugs will shrink about 13% by the end of the whole process....but even then, they are quite big mugs !

And after dinner, we're heading off to play poker with the gang down on Big Harbour.....a great way to throw my money away :P but it's always an entertaining evening, so it's well worth it!
