Turning Point

Big, Beautiful Balloons

I almost blipped GP's cat this morning. Amber must sense that she's at my mercy. I could hardly believe that she actually brushed past my leg - but cupboard love does not fool me, although she is quite cute... I picked up a few bits and pieces to take to the hospital later and was impressed at how tidy everything looked. I hate to think what horrors would be found lurking in my home should I fail to return one day.

Today's photo was taken when I went to collect Hamish from his sleep over. M's sister also had a couple of friends staying for a GCSE Art project photo-shoot. I found the girls down at the yacht club with a huge bunch of balloons. The sun was shining , but it was bitterly cold.

I heard briefly from Ian and Russ in Cape Town. They had completed an exhausting mountain climb yesterday and then Russ went out. He had been invited to a party, but mistakenly went to the wrong address. He had a fantastic evening and met interesting people including the Red Bull Downhill Skateboarding Champions! I'm not sure at which point he discovered that he was at no.5 instead of no.8, but he decided to stay.

At 3 o'clock I was walking through the corridors of Ninewells in search of GP. I found her sitting up, waving an electronic cigarette around in a cloud of vapour. She told me that after 60 years she's finally kicked the habit...Oh joy! There are six patients including mum, in a bay at the ward. According to her, two are 'loonies'. I wonder what they are thinking of her. Actually, I spent a very pleasant hour or so chatting to my mother - the morphine seems to have made her so very nice.

We haven't had any snow, despite there having been plenty in London and the south generally. I loved Felicity's comment - "I'm glad Moscow taught me how to use my heels as crampons".
