Kellie's Castle, Gopeng, Ipoh.
Quiet day today. Visited this folly which was built by William Kellie Smith (b.1870), from Dallas, N.E. Scotland. He came to Malaysia circa 1890, assisted with road building in south Perak and used the proceeds to buy some jungle which he converted to a rubber plantation. Became a multi-millionaire and built this for his bride, using labour from Madras. Unfortunately, he caught pneumonia in Lisbon, and died. Que Bummer, eh? Lots more ghost stories about the place, which was never completed.
Drove to Taiping, en-route for Penang island.
Cheers,
G&S
