Week of unusual birds
So after learning the Muscovy duck I stumbled across yesterday was not the "turkey" that a friend reported seeing, I went out to see if I could find the real culprit. Meet Sylvia. She has some issues. First, she doesn't belong at our senior center. Second, she's from Africa. Lastly, she can moonwalk a la Michael Jackson. Well, it's more like running backwards, which is not a normal thing (to my knowledge anyway). She also bolts across the yard for no apparent reason. She talks to herself a lot too. I watched her for about 30 minutes, and she's just a bit off really. Brain damage. Or maybe just that she's not head/body proportionate. She has a very tiny head. Oh, and she really does not like dogs.
Several people stopped and asked if I knew what she was as she's been hanging about. Luckily, I was paying attention somewhere and ran through the card file in my brain and went, "oh, that's a Guinea fowl". Double checked my hunch when I got back to work and I nailed it. Yay me.
Unfortunately I think my week of unusual birds may end here. I'm probably training it to work tomorrow, so I won't have my car to get out and explore with. Or, perhaps, I should drive in. I wasn't expecting the duck surprise, who knows what else is waiting out there for me to stumble across.
