Moment's Wonder

Bedside Magazines

The photography mags are mine. The gameinformer comes every month like clockwork, for years now. I don't know who pays for the subscription. Both of my sons have been out of the house for awhile now. I read it every month. Most the time, I have no idea what games I'm reading about.

Christmas 3 years ago, we had a bad snow storm. My oldest son was stationed at FOB Wilson in the Kandahar Province of Afghanistan. My youngest son, and the Amazing Grandson Sam and mom got stranded in Duluth. Me, all alone for Christmas. (First and only time, I pray).

My present that year from #1 was my very own X-box.

OK, I admit he gave me a heads up what was in the box, so as the snow started to pile up and the cancellations for Christmas Eve piled up right along with it, I found myself in tears at Baker's Square where I was picking up pies for a crowd that wasn't coming.

The snow was really coming down and I remembered there was a Game Stop just across the street and an Xbox under the tree with my name on it.

Spent a lot of time in Game Stop with those two boys. Going in alone, not so much, (actually never). I bought Oblivion and World At War WW II. I still remember how strange it was buying video games for myself.

I spent all of Christmas Eve and Christmas day playing X-box.

Sometime Christmas Day, I got phone call from Case from a roof top in Afghanistan on his commander's phone, calling for a just a minute to say Merry Christmas and that all was well. I still believe that the snow storm was the blessing that had me home and available to take that call.

Hard Duty all of us that Christmas.

Anyway, I have always loved video games from Mario Brothers to Skyrim, Not sure I would subscribe to this if it stopped, but it has a place at my bedside.
