Industrial sunrise

I went to the park early because the sun was coming up. You need to understand that the rising sun is something we don't often see here on the south shore of Lake Erie. As the crow flies, we live less than a mile from the lake. Because of that fact, clouds are the most common feature of our weather from November through April. A sunrise is reason for celebration on a winter morning. Unfortunately, the actual sunrise wasn't particularly spectacular this morning, so I turned my back on the sun and blipped the sun lighting up the power towers. They aren't exactly beautiful, but they are interesting, and I thought they looked pretty good in the morning light.

The smoke stack in the rear of the landscape marks the location of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, a coal-powered electric plant that will soon be shut down. The main reason being the pollutants that pour out of that smokestack. Things will be changing around here. Our houses and cars will be cleaner, and our health will hopefully improve. What effect will it have on our economy? That remains to be seen. And what about the fate of the peregrine falcons that nest each year high up on the tower? Let's hope their nests will be safe...at least for awhile. I haven't heard yet if there are immediate plans to tear down the tower. That would be sad.
