Happy Birthday Mum

Yesterday my mother reached the grand old age of 80.

She was born in Glasgow in 1932, and had her childhood rudely interrupted by the Nazis and their pathetic attempt at world domination. On 1oth May 1940 Rudloph Hess, one of Hitler's right hand men, parachuted into Scotland, and landed in a field behind her home.

Since then she has married, raised two sons, worked hard, been widowed and managed to accumulate more close friends than most people have had hot dinners.

Today we treated her to a posh high tea in Glasgow (minus the champagne as she is a lifelong tea-totaller).

I wonder which one of the Royal family will be sending her a telegram in 20 years time?
