As the storm came in....the band played
The town of San Pedro on the edge of the Atacama desert has an average rainfall of 1 millimetre per year. Waking up on Saturday morning the town looked like it had been hit by a natural disaster with the overnight flash floods. Bars, restaurants, hostels were all up early with plenty of mops and strategically placed buckets.
We found a great cafe off the main square for a slow breakfast and watched as a parade of people including this marching band played a defiant tune. The big guy in the middle was clearly giving his all with this song.
In the late afternoon we went sandboarding in the Death Valley which was good fun until heavy lightning got a little too close when we were at the top of the hill. We then decided to retreat to the comfort of the van and a cold beer.
