Surreal day of surprises

3:45 am wake up call on our 3rd and final day crossing the Bolivian salt flats.

The early, early morning contained visits to the Sol de Manana geysers (4,855 metres altitude) and Termas de Polques Hot springs (4,400 metres altitude). A great but chilly start and a relaxing dip in the 30 degree springs.

The late morning contained a big snowball fight with our 3 drivers and group members in ankle deep powder snow followed by a visit to Laguna Verde where we enjoyed clear views of the green lake and the snow topped volcanoes.

After crossing the border into Chile we arrived at the driest place on earth - San Pedro de Atacama in the early afternoon. It was hot, hot, hot so on went the shorts.

The late afternoon and suddenly in the place that never rains we had thunder, minor flooding and power outages.

A surreal day of surprises indeed!
