Line of Fame

I had never noticed this line of names with dates before.
It is just outside the Teatro Baltasar Diaz in the main street of Funchal, Madeira.
I think the names all refer to the political leaders of the island. I'm not at all sure. When I think how many times I have walked over them! ...... And so many others walk by without a glance.

For those of you interested in other Madeiran information - it was 19 degrees and the swimming was lovely.
