Forever love.
My first Valentine is my Forever Valentine. We are now clocking up our 44th Valentine's day together(we were very young when we met ,hmm!)and are still holding it together.
This morning, twenty beautiful ,crimson red roses were delivered to the door but I didn't need the flowers to know that hubby and I, are, and will be, forever friends---- soul mates from that first evening we met in thetiny local cinema back in Scotland,to view the original "Planet of the Apes." A box of Maltesers presented to me on entering the cinema made Bill the most desirable guy in town.
We have come through hard times together but somehow, always seem to grow stronger with every challenge. We have three of the most wonderful children and there is never a day goes by when I don't feel blessed. If there is a lesson to be learnt, it has to be that we must never take anything for granted.
He has never been a budding poet but tried really hard to express his thoughts in verse on my card. These are a few lines from one of his masterpieces:
"We give on this day candy and flowers,
But I never stop to say 'THANKYOU' for all the hours
You have stood by my side and given me a smile
As if to tell our hearts it's been worth every mile."
My response?
"As long as forever
I'll stay by your side,
I'll be your companion
your friend and your guide."
I caused us both to burst out laughing this morning. As part of his Valentine Day's gifts I gave him 2 CD's , one of Alfie Boe ,whom he loves and the other of Al Green.Next time, I must take my glasses with me ,as the Alfie Boe CD is of religious music, not that that is a problem but not exactly what I figured was suitable for Valentines Day!! However, there are some lovely old melodies and hymns on there and we ended up, singing along, with gusto.I have to add at this point, that Gusto has a better voice than either of us!"
I remembered Bill saying he liked Al Green but when I gave him the second recording he looked confused.
"Al Green--- " he read from the label.
"Yes, I remembered you liked him." was my response."Remember I got you the CD which had his new single included?"
Bill by this time was looking totally lost, as he searched his memory bank .
"Al Green," he repeated.
By this time I was getting a little frustrated by his lack of recall.
"Yeah, you loved his single and so I bought you the CD! It wasn't that long ago either!!"
"Don't you mean Cilo Green?"Bill queried.
Ah well, my intentions were good and he fortunatley admires Al Green too.
Hope you have all had a lovely day.
