Logical progression?

Yesterday's shot made me realise how much things change in the metaphorical blink of a historical eye.

I have a feeling this is another of those where I stand in danger of "The Man" leaping to the fore with a correction or two, but I remember it thusly?.
Way, way, back, when the world was young and all, either our Granddad, or "Big Daft Unc" Len used to be a Lamplighter  among other accomplishments.

For some weird reason I can't boldify, italicise, etc. More specifically, I can't add this link ...

Today it's worked. DUH?!?!?

He went around on a bike lighting them. One in particular used to stick and behave rather like a pilot light until Len, on the return run would give it a whack with the pole as he passed, whereupon normal service was resumed and it burned well.
I think it's possible that he had to re-pass said light on his way home because one day he found a bloke searching the lamp-pole to find out where the magic switch was which had been hit to light it.
We still have a couple of the lighters, which kinda suggests it may have been Granddad. However, be that as it may, I suspect that at least the nearer of the two would work perfectly well if I filled it with lighter fluid.

Having just started a thread about links to BIG, etc. I know there are those who, on principle never follow ''Lynx'' ... TOUGH! they tend to only get half of anybody's story.
