Hyperion at the Jockey Club

Hyperion was one of the greatest racehorses of his time. He raced in the early 1930s, and then - at stud - proved to be even more successful. He had a profound impact on the racing and breeding industry worldwide.

This lifesize bronze statue (modelled by John Skeaping), stands at the front of the Jockey Club headquarters on Newmarket High Street.

His two Classic wins were the Derby and the St Leger, both in 1933. He was bred and owned by the Earl of Derby and trained by George Lambton at Bedford Lodge stables in Newmarket.
