Curiosity and the campaign medal.
I spotted this at the car boot today and was intrigued with its pedigree. I have carried out a little research, but must be looking in the wrong places. I have discovered that the motto, "faugh a ballach" is an Irish war cry, which loosely translates as "clear the way" I am sure that the real meaning of this will be somewhat earthier, in a celtic way. Now it seems that this was also the motto of the Royal Irish Fusiliers, who I believe were involved in action in Libya during WW II.At first I thought the regimental badge was a Welsh one, however I am now satisfied that this is not the case. As with a lot of regiments there have been many and various amalagations, and I thinh the R.I.F were incorporated into the Royal Irish Rangers. If anyone out there can help me, you will help to satisfy my curiosity.
Adios.
