Over the Horizon

Balliceaux

Being grounded in Richmond for a while I've been making the most of it.

I've met a whole new community of friends via Kerry. Mostly graduate students at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) studying social work like Kerry. Antonio, a Peruvian Latin American Studies professor at the university Elias a med student from New Mexico who I have a lot in common with. Tom, Jill, Kari and many more...

It was Kerry's birthday tonight and we spent it at Balliceaux, one of my favorite spots in the fan. A hole in the brick wall turns into a hip restaurant more reminiscent of New York city than little old Richmond. Inside, low light vibrates down a long hall of tables full of people gathered around tables of delicious looking food. In the back room tables still sprinkled with diners fade away as the night goes on to an impromptu dance floor with a local dj in tune. And the night rolls on full of faces that sometimes turn into old friends conjured up to life again from memory.

It was a late night full of cheer like I haven't had for a long time.
