I'll be there
Wee Danny has a cold at the moment and needs lots of cuddles and attention. He also needs his fingernails cut.
When he was born I sent him a card with John Cleese doing a silly walk on the front and some heartfelt words on the inside. I'm not great at being sentimental but I gave it a go:
"Welcome to the World little guy! I wish you all the health and happiness for the future. It's a scary place out there but you will always have the love of your Mum & Dad in your heart which will help you get through it. We hope to raise you to be honest, respectful and true and to be able to laugh and smile at the good and the bad.
While your Mum was in labour the midwife put the radio onto Smooth FM which serenaded us to a range of cheesy hits. Just as you arrived the song that was playing was "I'll be there" by the Jackson 5. The lyrics couldn't have been more fitting:
"Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter.
Togetherness: that's all I'm after.
Whenever you need me, I'll be there.
I'll be there to protect you, with an unselfish love that respects you.
Just call out my name and I'll be there"
So good luck Danny boy. Take bold steps. Use a silly walk if you need to. Remember the lyrics to "I'll be there". But please, please don't call out my name at three o'clock in the morning because I'm rather partial to my sleep!
Love Dad x"
