2:00 AM Feeding

Mother Comfort remembers~I wanted to paint a picture for Paul, something that would represent a fond memory. Now, I could have painted the time he got the notion he was a big boy and tried using the big hole in our three holer. He fell down the hole and was just hanging on by his elbows and screaming at the top of his lungs. His dad came in and thought it was so funny that he laughed. Now, that might make a cute picture, but it wouldn't make a good memory for him. I wanted him to have a gentler memory, so that is why I painted the picture of his 2 a.m. feeding when his dad got up and fed him. That was just the way I remembered it.

Hallucinating the entire time, but knowing she was doing it, Mother Comfort was so glad to have the company this afternoon. She chattered on, recounting the events of the past few days, years and all the way back to age 4...all the while trying to pull the gold threads that she saw off her hands and bed. She and Paul reminisced about their younger years. She laughed, she fussed. She asked us to bring her thread and a crochet needle so she could keep busy, not recognizing that her hands barely worked well enough to hold a cup.

Three little hearts took shape while we conversed. She's on an antibiotic to address a UTI. She hasn't had any bleeds since last night. We do hope that she is thinking more clearly when it is all said and done. In some ways she's completely oriented and her memory is excellent, even the recent memories. In other ways...not so much. Tonight she let me know that she better go back to that care home when she gets out so there will be someone there to take care of her. I'm sure she will enjoy telling her stories to the other ladies.
