The Hydro Bell

Crieff Hydropathic was built in 1878 and this bell was cast in 1879. It was originally installed in the Tower using a long rope enabling it to be rung by the porters from the front entrance. Its peel was intended to recall golfers from the golf course for lunch each day! During the second world war it was reputedly rung to warn the citizens of the town of air raids.

Today, it is housed in a neat little "belfry" which is near the front entrance. It is so small, that one has to bend down to peer inside to see the bell and to read the inscription.
