lovely lamellae
We had a wonderful strong afternoon sun today that afforded us a good look at details often lost in the shadows.
Who knew that mallards sported such "teeth?"
Well actually these are called lamellae and act like sieves to strain out mud and water while retaining the things mallards eat, like seeds and bugs.
And notice the texture of the feathers in the lower left corner.
I just love good lighting!!
