Spotted Eagle-Owl

Today saw the start of our weekend at Pretoriuskop in the Kruger National Park, as guests of the West Rand Honorary Rangers for their annual series of birding weekends.

This Spotted Eagle-Owl (Bubo africanus) was one of many observed on our first night drive. This owl is resident, and the most common large 'eared' owl in southern Africa.
