Comb Duck

We found a pair of Comb Duck (Sarkidiornis melanotos) at Leeupan on the H1-2 road between Tshokwane and Skukuza in the Kruger National Park. This duck is an intra-african partial migrant, is fairly common in the north of the region.

This breeding male has the large laterally compressed knob (comb), and is often referred to locally as the Knob-billed Duck.
