Water shortage?

Went for a walk along the banks of the River Tay and saw some of the flood defences built a few years ago to safeguard the City of Perth.

Until the 19th Century Perth was the lowest crossing point of the River Tay and has had a succession of different bridges. The loss of a safe crossing in 1621 led to a decline in the town's fortunes and in 1766, architect John Smeaton [he of Eddystone Lighthouse fame] was commissioned to build a bridge across the River Tay. The Smeaton Bridge was completed in 1771.

As you can see [go large] from the flood levels marked on the north side of the west pier the River Tay floods dramatically and periodically and near here the Castle of Perth was washed away in a flood in 1210AD.
