40 Years On

Dinner at Catalpa

We are not getting lost today on our way out to Hamilton - the concierge printed out a fool-proof map with an idiot guide! The journey was about 4hours (300kms) and once we were out of the city was quite straight forward. The area was very flat, dry, arid-looking and sparsely populated - at times we wondered where on earth this was taking us - (just as an aside the temp was 41 degrees!) we have never been in such dry heat. Once we arrived in Hamilton we found a busy town with every facility you could want - what a contrast. Colin and Heather (Alan's cousins) live 5kms out of the town and farm close to 800 acres with their 2 sons; the 3rd is a chef and runs the family restaurant. It was a lovely reunion having not seen them since they emigrated. They made us feel so welcome. In the evening we went to the restaurant and enjoyed a fabulous meal. On our return we spotted a possum in the headlights of the car - the grapefruit thief! A trap was put down that night!
