Storm clouds brewing......
.... over Thornhill.
Thornhill lies on the A873 between Blairdrummond and Aberfoyle just south of Callander.
The village was planned and founded at the end of the seventeenth century and has a population of 1,109.
The only note of interest(?) I could find about the village is the fact that it reputedly has the smallest purpose built Masonic Lodge in Scotland.
To the south west of Thornhill is Flanders Moss, the largest remaining area of lowland bog in Britain. Squelchy mats of sphagnum moss carpet the reserve and plantlife include cranberry and bog rosemary. Adders and lizards bask in the sunshine (when we get it!) and the distinctive calls of snipe and stonechat can be heard. Roe deer are common and an unusual colony of blue hares are in residence.
