Quechua doll
The Quechua live in the High Andes of Peru. Little has changed in the past 300 years.
They grow potatoes, grain and herd sheep and llamas, goats and occationally a cow or two.The huts are made of adobe bricks and have no furniature except a stool for the man of the home. Women sit on the earthen floor. The roof is thatched and the fire in the corner hearth blackens the rafters with years of smoke and soot. Guinea pigs roam the floor of the hut and they, like chickens, are the main source of meat for the family. Quechua women's dress is hand woven and dyed from natural dyes found amonst the berries, leaves and mosses on the high plateaus.
My journey took me to Lima, Cusco, Lake Titicaca, and Iquitos in the Amazon Rainforest. An amazing country!
