The Last Emperor.

I bought this doll on my travels through China. He is Pu Yi, the boy Emperor, who became the last of his dynasty at the age of three years. After 3000 years of Imperial rule the Qing dynasty is forced to come to an end three years later. (1911)
When he is 18 years old he is expelled from the Forbiden City - he escapes with the help of his friend and tutor. Leading the life of a playboy until persueded and manipulated by the invading Japanese as a puppet Emperor, he was later captured by the Russians, handed over to the Chinese Peoples Republic, who imprisoned him for 10 years. In later life he was a gardener and lived a simple life.
